The Search Begins

I've just returned from a Ladies Retreat this past weekend and was encouraged to find a name or attribute of Jesus for each of the letters of the alphabet...an ABC Journal.  Today, in reading just the last three chapters of Hebrews I was able to find several to put in my Journal.  I'm sure as I continue my search I will find other supporting verses for those I have found today, in addition to many new ones!

By having something specific that I was seeking, I feel that I was more aware of all that I was reading and able to concentrate better on the Word and not allow my mind to wander - to things I need to get done today, what happened last week, etc.

One of my finds today was in Hebrews 11:6 - Rewarder.  "...he is the rewarder of them that diligently seek him."  Everyone enjoys receiving a reward.  However, as with any reward you must seek it to receive it.

I Corinthians 10:31- Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Recently I have heard this verse used in reference to several different topics: drinking, working, eating, etc., because they are directly referenced in this verse.  While I've not had to struggle with alcohol and no longer work outside the home, I have tried to apply this more to my eating habits.  But that is not what God has been convicting me about lately with this verse.  It has been about taking care of my home and family for the glory of God.  It is easy to take the privilege of being a stay at home mom for granted.  I am home all day, so the dishes and other housekeeping can wait. OBEY RIGHT AWAY, THE RIGHT WAY

I’ve said that to my children many, many times; as a matter of fact, just this morning I said it to my oldest two. Only this time, I was convicted myself. How many times have I looked at the kitchen counter and thought, “I really need to do the dishes,” and yet they remain there, dirty, for a few more hours (or days). UGH! What a hypocrite I’ve been in front of my children. No, they didn’t hear anyone telling me to clean the house, or know that I refused to obey the prompting and try to rationalize my disobedience with things like the following: • I don’t feel good today; I’ll do it tomorrow when I’m feeling better. • I let it go too long already. I feel overwhelmed by it, and I just can’t handle that feeling right now. • Maybe if I leave it until after my husband gets home I can make him feel sorry enough to do it for me. • I don’t want to do it now, just because! There is none that doeth good

Romans 3:12 They are all gone out of the way , they are together become unprofitable ; there is none that doeth good, no, not one . How many days do I feel that way as a stay at home mom?  Too many to count.  I'm sure there are others who can relate to this feeling of futuility while raising children for the Lord. But just as Romans continues to describe the hope possible for a person, what an encouragement that there is hope for our children as well. There is no hope for man in his natural condition, but Christ made the ultimate sacrifice to make a way for us to go to heaven.  He died for our sins and took our place of punishment; and when we accept that gift, we are made profitable to God and good in his sight again.  Becoming a parent and choosing to raise children for the Lord is a sacrifice.  A sacrifice of our time, treasure, and patience.  What makes a parent make that sacrifice?  LOVE!   Even when my kids are at their worst, I still love them and use that op
